In fact, I don't even know if RAWs compress all that well. However, there is another factor to consider (and I don't understand well enough to advise on): If your raw files are already stored in a compressed format (cameras have an option to do compressed/uncompressed RAWs) then I'm not sure how much extra benefit you'd get out of further compressing. It will not degrade image quality, it's that simple. This kind of product uses lossless compression, it is not at all comparable to jpeg or mp3 (lossy) compression used with media files. Will compression level affect the IQ of my raw photos that will be backed up? If I'm not concerned about disk space on my backup hard drive, should I set the compression level to none? Reflect's option allows me to select from none, medium, or high compression. I'll begin the backup process by creating a full image of my disk. I recently obtained Macrium Reflect but have not yet used it.
